Grapes

Kozgro's Agricultural Field Blend (AFB) can help to control the following disease and pest problems in grapes: nematode, leafhopper, thrip, mite, mildew, aphid, etc.  The AFB also helps to increase the sugar in the grapes and vines, as well as increasing the yield.

Kozgro's AFB helps to eliminate the need to fumigate or treat vineyards for nematodes and other parasitic microorganisms found in the soil.  The AFB accomplishes this by setting up a conducive environment in the soil that enables the beneficial microorganisms to flourish.  These beneficial predatory microorganisms feed on, and help to control, the parasitic microorganisms that hinder grape production.

The AFB works with the soil to restore it to its once productive state.  AFB also helps to establish humus in the soil very quickly after it is applied.  It helps to break down crop residue into organic matter, and finally into the usable form of humus.  The AFB helps to create a healthier, conducive environment for earthworms to live in.  As the earthworm   populations increase in the soil, so does the fertility of the soil.  With a healthier soil, you will have a healthier and more productive vineyard.

Normal Practices

AFB helps to build up the immune system of the soil and plant.  A healthier immune system, in turn, increases the sugar level in the vine.  A high sugar content in the vine is important because sucking and chewing insects excrete sugar, but are unable to digest it. If these insects ingest too much sugar, they get a condition similar to severe diarrhea and will die.  Generally, when the sugar content of the vine is high enough, the insects will simply avoid feeding on the grape plant.

Farmers that grow grapes on the Kozgro program have reported their grapes mature earlier with higher sugar content, than grapes grown under normal practices.

The organic AFB also helps to increase the availability and utilization of the fertilizer you are using on your grapes.  The fertilizer will also remain in the root zone longer, while the losses from leaching, volatilization, and being tied up, are reduced.  This is normally the reason 20 to 25% less nitrogen fertilizer will be needed to produce the same grape crop, or more, under the Kozgro program.

As the AFB helps to build the humus in the soil, it also helps to improve the water retention of the soil.  Also, water penetration improves to the point other products are not needed to do this.  This results in a water savings of up to 25% per growing season.

In the early stages of the Kozgro program, the soil will normally be more mellow, and have better water penetration and retention.  The vines will have better root growth (especially hair roots), and have better stress tolerance.  The next benefits to look for are better cane growth and better fruit set.  The end result is more production, better quality, and more profit.

Kozgro's organic fertilizer and plant food, AFB, is a liquid and very easy to use. It is most effective when applied broadcast.  Timing of application is extremely important for maximum results.  This enables the AFB to work during the dormant period.
